Welcome to Rhodes

Rhodes – More than just a party town

This Greek island lies around 18 kilometres southwest of Turkey and enjoys a subtropical climate where the sun shines most days. And it is this promise of sun which really makes Rhodes holidays shine for most tourists.
Rhodes really does pack a lot in. Not only is it a beautiful island, offering the perfect beach resort, but it is also a great place for history, culture and of course partying.

For this reason, Rhodes is the most visited out of all the Greek islands and even the Greeks themselves like to take their holidays in Rhodes to get away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland.

On the east coast, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to beaches; with stretches of golden sands and rugged rocks to explore. Head further south and you will come across a more tranquil scene of woodland and vineyards. And dotted all over Rhodes are ancient ruins ready to tell the story of the island.

Rhodes has what many holiday destinations strive for; it can cater to so many different people and can provide a range of holidays. So a group of young travellers can party the nights away at Faliraki, enjoying cocktails and music while the newlywed couple can explore the rich history and romantic atmosphere of Rhodes Town. There really is something for everyone and it is this, which makes Rhodes holidays so unusual.

Information & Facts

The beaches are what attract so many people to this island every year. And while some visitors on holidays in Rhodes prefer to set up camp in amongst the hustle and bustle of Faliraki beaches, you may prefer a quieter day on the sands. If this is the case then the beaches at Stegna and Agathi are much more likely to have room for you to unroll your beach towel without the risk of bumping into someone as you do.

For the party animals, holidays to Rhodes have always been the number one choice and with the number of glow sticks and glitter balls making an appearance in Faliraki it’s easy to see why. But for the more reserved holiday maker, there’s the chance to explore the old quarter in Rhodes Town with its restaurants and trendy bars. The new parts of Rhodes Town can also provide plenty of choice in bars and clubs too. So Rhodes holidays can adapt to suit you and your preferences when it comes to the nightlife.

Rhodes Old Town is absolutely soaked in history and is a favourite for historians and tourists looking to give their minds a bit of a workout while on their holidays in Rhodes. The town is surrounded by medieval walls and there is a choice of seven gates to enter. Inside you will find the remains of a 3rd century temple of Aphrodite. The street of Knights is also fascinating to walk down and The Palace of the Grandmaster is also an interesting trip.

If your mind has been left racing by the history of the island, then you may want to pay a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes. Here you will find vases, jewellery and figurines from the Ialysos of the Geometric and Classical periods as well as from ancient Kamiros of the Geometric and Classical periods.

The weather is one of the main attractions of Rhodes; particularly with Brits desperate for a bit of sun. The island boasts the best weather of all the Greek islands with 300 days of sunshine meaning that visitors can enjoy the warm weather from March right through until October. Because of this, visitors are not restricted to the summer months when they are booking holidays to Rhodes.

Autumn remains very warm with temperatures between 20°c – 24°c with plenty of sunshine throughout the day frequently over 10 hours. During the winter months as well as the sunshine this stage can see plenty of rain too making December and January the wettest months.

Eating Out

For lovers of Greek food, Rhodes holidays are ideal. Rhodes has its fair share of tavernas all offering feasts in the style of Greek meze. Your table will be overflowing with pitta bread, dips, olives and vine leaves as well as any other treats you may want to try. The meze style of eating is perfect to share and a great way of really sinking your teeth into the local dishes.

Fish features heavily on the menus here in Rhodes and of course, it’s all fresh. In fact, if you’re eating in a taverna by the sea, you will be able to watch the fishing boats bring in the fish of the day. In most restaurants you can have anything from swordfish, red mullet, squid or octopus. You should wash this all down with some wine from the local vineyards and, if you’re feeling brave enough, perhaps even some ouzo.

1. The Valley of the Butterflies is a really magical attraction. It is here that thousands of butterflies gather in the summer in order to reproduce. It’s a great place to visit with all the family and one of Rhodes’ biggest attractions.

2. The Water Park in Rhodes is a great day out for all the family and perfect for groups of friends on holiday together. There are different rides to suit all ages at this water park so no matter who you are with; you can make a splash on your holidays.

3. The Seven Springs is another popular destination and great if you’re looking for a bit of an escape. This area, covered in greenery, is an oasis where you can walk through a tunnel with the water running under your feet and see the lake where all the water from the springs gathers.

4. Monte Smith is where you will find the Acropolis of Ancient Rhodes. The archaeological park is absolutely beautiful and also fairly mind boggling as visitors struggle to get their heads round the history. Here you will find the Hellenistic stadium from the 3rd century BC.
