Corfu

Corfu – the adaptable destination

Corfu can offer you the ultimate sun soaked holiday. The beaches here really are spectacular and there are pretty little towns and cities dotted all over the island too. This island has always been one of the most popular with tourists and with its beautiful beaches, spectacular landscape and laid back atmosphere, it’s easy to see why.

Corfu is a Greek island which is located in the Ionian Sea. But what makes it really stand out from other Greek islands is the fact that is boasts a lot of greenery. And of course, the main source of this greenery is the abundance of olive trees that carpet the island.

Corfu may have been the first Greek island to attract package tourists, but there are still unspoilt villages and beaches to be found, and this delightful island remains popular with independent travellers and package tourists alike. In fact, no other Greek island attracts more British holidaymakers. History lovers will be fascinated by the ancient sites dotted around the island, and the place is steeped in Greek mythology. You’ll find every kind of landscape here – farmland and green countryside, rugged mountain scenery and jaw-droppingly gorgeous beaches. The most popular are the stretches of sand around Corfu Town, the island’s capital and a destination in itself with its narrow, cobbled streets. Greeks are famously friendly, but, even by their standards; the welcome that awaits you on Corfu is a warm one.

Whether you’re looking for the party atmosphere of Kavos or the relaxed and peaceful location of Glyfada, there is plenty here to keep people of all ages entertained. Holidays to Corfu are all about the outdoors. So if you are a lover of sun, sea and spectacular views, then this is the holiday destination for you.

Eating Out

As with all Greek islands, the food and wine in Corfu play a massive part in the lives of the locals. So during your holiday you will discover a range of tavernas offering some delicious fresh food to try. Food here is fresh and exciting but the main thing about eating in Corfu is that it is a time to socialise. People on the Greek islands don’t like to rush their meal times. In fact, they draw them out and use them as a time to socialise with their families.

Sightseeing

The beautiful Paleokastritsa is a spot set around three bays. This is one of Corfu’s most famous beauty spots and is really popular with tourists. In fact, even luxury yachts will sail into Paleokastritsa just to admire the views from this town. In Paleokastitsa, you can find some lovely beaches and simply lie back and make the most of the surroundings. Or you can head to the monastery, Moni Theotokou and view the fascinating ceiling carving of the Tree of Life.

Corfu town is a charming place with a strong European atmosphere. Its narrow little streets add elegance to the place which is highlighted by the 16th century fortress there. The town is crammed full of chapels, old mansions and secret gardens just waiting to be explored.
