Welcome to Paphos

Paphos holidays - a sunny respite!

Long regarded as the birthplace of the mythical Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love and beauty, Paphos revels in its ability to reawaken the romantic fires in holidaymakers of all ages. Holidays to Paphos are all about long, languid days in the surreal surrounds of an ancient town and even longer nights in the very real arms of your favourite paramour.

Paphos is on the Mediterranean coast of Cyprus, about 50-km west of Limassol. The old capital, Paphos is a city of antiquity, a place where the myths and legends interleave themselves in the modern trappings of a bustling tourist mecca. Let Holiday Supermarket get you here with plenty of flights to Cyprus available and loads of excellent accommodation at the best prices available. Then we'll let you take care of the rest...

Once you're comfortably settled into your hotel room there's plenty to see, eat and do - whether it's a bit of bonding with fellow guests around the pool or a romantic dinner for two at one of the many restaurants, Paphos holidays are geared to pleasure. The climate is generally a warm, southern Mediterranean one with around eight months of summer from April through November.

The economy of Paphos is largely based on tourism and there are four distinct resort areas - Kato Paphos, Coral Bay, Latchi, and Aphrodite Hills. The largest by far is Kato Paphos while the most modern is Aphrodite Hills. There are luxury holiday choices available as well as plenty of budget properties.

Adding to its attractiveness, Paphos has been selected as the European Capital of Culture for 2017.

Information & Facts

Climate

Paphos boasts eight months of summer with temps in the mid to high 20s from April through to November. Highest rainfall months are from November to March and rain is rare in summer. In the height of summer the humidity can reach a dripping 85%.

Eating Out

Cheap, expensive and everything in between.

The cuisine style of Cyprus looks to Greece for its inspiration and therefore the meals can be large and long... Pace yourself and restrict your eating between meals so you've plenty of room for this seafood and spice based cuisine. There's plenty of olives and tapenades and of course taramasalata and tzatziki is ubiquitous. Calamari is a local specialty and fresh seafood is everywhere.

Restaurants

The budget options - The Last Castle is a pretty restaurant with awe-inspiring views over Lara Bay and is well regarded for it's great BBQ lunches (we dare you to resist the delicate waft of sizzling octopus!) and fabulous local salads.

Mid price options -Mbania right on the sea front in Paphos is a wonderful introduction to the fresh seafoods of Cyprus. Look for the restaurant painted white and looking rather similar to a boat with portholes. If you've spent the morning sightseeing, stop at Melania on Tombs of the Kings Road for a slow-paced meal.

Splurge -As you head through Paphos towards Coral Bay look out for Sienna - as romantic a spot as you'll find with a back terrace that overlooks the bay. The meals are exquisitely prepared and it's a fine dining experience.

Sightseeing

One of the most historic spots in the Med, Cyprus dates back to legendary times  - when Icarus flew too close to the sun, Aphrodite was born and myths created. On a more prosaic level, the archaeological sites in Cyprus, and many close to Paphos, are well worth a visit, simply to see the cradle of Mediterranean civilisation. Book your flights to Paphos now and enjoy the friendly Cypriot hospitality and the many historic sites.

Kato Paphos Archaeological Park  - incredibly many of the more striking discoveries in this ancient site were made only recently. The mosaics are an extraordinarily special sight and there's plenty of them to see.  You'll see the ancient remnants of a very old city and the little showcase museum is well put together.

Ayios Neophytos Monastery - the beautiful stonework inside this monastery is a tribute to the original builders. It's a short bus ride up from the city so do make the effort because in the heat of summer the cool breeze in the valley will be most welcome. Explore the little caves and just wander the site.

The Port Fort  - the square sandstone block that stands guard over the harbour was built by the Ottoman's in the mid 1500s and is the remains of a much larger structure. You can climb up to the ramparts and stare out to sea - and use your imagination to ponder on how grand the original structure must have been.
