They come from all over the world to explore the 20 arrondissements which make up the city and there are certain attractions that the tourists on their Paris city breaks always want to see including the Louvre, Notre Dame de Paris and of course the famous Eiffel Tower.

Paris holidays

Paris is an extremely versatile destination, able to cater to any age and taste. So if you’re looking for that quiet romantic getaway, then that’s what you’ll get. On the other hand, it can also be action packed if you prefer livelier last minute holidays.

The history surrounding this fascinating city is truly breathtaking as it spans over 2,500 years. The first people to settle in Paris were called Gauls who lived there between 250-200BC and the Notre Dame Cathedral now stands over the ancient settlement. Of course the city has undergone some major changes since the time of the Gauls and if you fast forward to the present day, you come across a cosmopolitan city, full of life but also packed full of history and culture. The perfect destination for relaxing but fulfilling city breaks.

On city breaks to Paris the possibilities are endless. There is plenty to see and plenty to do and the beauty of its architecture is outstanding. Whether you’re planning on a weekend away or a longer stay in the beautiful City of Light, you will be spoiled for choice at every level. With the very best in food, fashion, shopping, art and culture, Paris really can offer you so much more than your average city breaks.

Attractions in Paris

If you love art and culture then you will love the Louvre. It’s a popular spot, attracting over eight million visitors each year. You could spend a whole day in the Louvre exploring the different curatorial departments and of course admiring the famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci. It really is not to be missed.

Notre Dame de Paris is also worth a visit. This cathedral is admired the world over for its French Gothic architecture and, as the first building in the world to use flying buttresses, it’s a fascinating construction.

There are few structures in the world which are quite as recognisable as the Eiffel Tower. This structure is instantly recognised as the symbol of France and as the tallest building in Paris, it is truly spectacular. Take a walk up the tower during your Paris city breaks or a lift if your legs can’t stand it, to see some spectacular views of the city.

Paris is a city which can easily cater to the little ones too. There’s plenty to explore within the city itself, but if you really want to treat your children during your holidays to Paris then the Disneyland resort can really do the trick. Be transported into a magical kingdom and enjoy the rides, shows and impeccable service while you’re there.

Paris Weather

Paris is a city which rarely experiences extreme weather and it is therefore a pleasant destination any time of the year. Summers are warm and pleasant and winters are chilly but not too cold. Paris is known for its sudden rain showers though – so remember to pack an umbrella.

Eating in Paris

The restaurant and cafe culture in Paris continues to thrive with a focus always on fresh and local produce. The city is overflowing with trendy restaurants and there are also some hidden gems up the side streets, with traditional bistros offering simple French cuisine.

A good tip when eating out on your Paris holidays is to avoid the tourist areas where prices may be heightened and opt for the places where the locals eat. Here you can still enjoy the traditional croissants and coffee for your morning breakfast, but you will be having a true Parisian experience rather than the tourist’s version.

During Paris city breaks you will discover that eating is extremely important; particularly at lunch time. This is when you will see the entire city come to a stop as the locals shut up shop to eat.

Paris Transport

The driving in Paris is notoriously stressful as the roads are crammed with cars and parking can be a little tricky. The best idea for tourists on their Paris holidays is that they avoid travelling by car and explore the city by foot. It’s one of the best ways to see the city in all its glory. But if your journey is a little beyond walking distance, then Paris’ excellent Metro system may be your best bet. This efficient underground system can transport you across the city in a matter of minutes and it’s surprisingly easy to use.

Don’t forget that while you’re in Paris, a trip on the river Seine is essential. As well as there being many cruises available on the river – perfect for those romantic city breaks to Paris these boats are also great for travelling up and down the city.
