Vienna for the UEFA Euro 2008
Austria is the ideal getaway for a bargain city break holiday with minimal travel time. You can get to Austria with convenient two hour direct flights from most major UK airports. There are several great cities to visit, including Vienna, host of the UEFO Euro 2008 cup final on the 29th June this year.
Vienna attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world to see its mix of modern and tradition, from its imperial palaces to its famed coffee houses. Don’t miss the opportunity to take in the glorious view from the giant Prater ferris wheel, an attraction in itself with panoramic views across the city.
Vienna is not only the capital city of Austria but also one of its nine states and has a population of 1.7 million, making it Austria’s largest city. It is also home to the world’s oldest zoo and has more than a hundred art museums. You could also visit the memorial to Mozart in Hapsburg gardens. It is also home to the House of Butterflies, located just yards from the Opera House. Inside is a far cry from Austria - a tropical rainforest environment, home to hundreds of species of live, colourful flying butterflies complete with waterfalls, bridges and hollow trees.
If museums and imperial palaces are not your thing, you can take in the designer shops and local markets. Vienna is a bustling city with plenty to see and do, with a lively nightlife and plenty of trendy wine bars and casinos.
