Turkey, where two magnificent cultures mingle!

Filed under: Turkey — Tim @ 12:48 pm

East meets west in Eurasian Turkey. Spread over the Anatolian Peninsula into southeastern Europe, it is an amazing fusion of the two cultures.

Ottoman mosques rub shoulders with Greek temples. Sunny days spent at the sandy beaches and nights at the funky discotheques and late-night bars. Shopping for spices in the colourful bazaars or browsing stylish boutiques at European malls.

Istanbul, the largest city of Turkey, is the former capital. It is a romantic blend of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. This is obvious from architecture of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque or the Blue Mosque, the museum at Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern, and Dolmabahçe Palace that houses exquisite artefacts and The Spice Bazaar.

Most of the beach resorts are along the southern and southwestern coast. The most famous is Antalay on the Mediterranean coast.

Ankara is the capital of Turkey and is mainly a university town. It is the gateway to Anatolia - the Land of the Rising Sun and to the Dead Sea coast. From Ankara, visitors also travel to Cappadocia where the Christians hid from the raiding Arabs. Ankara has a lot of museums and archaeological sites, including the Anit Kabir, Ataturk’s Mausoleum.

Enjoy a bargain holiday in Turkey, the land of natural beauty mingled with a ten thousand year legacy.
