Turkey’s tourism industry is growing while others shrink industry

According to the reports which were released earlier this year, the tourism industry of Turkey is not affected by the global recession, if compared to other countries in Europe.

The World Tourism Organisation said that the tourism of Turkey has gone up by 1.47 percent. On the other hand, the tourism all over world has gone down by 7 percent between the months of January and July of 2009.

According to a leading online flight agency, this figure reflects the strength of cheap flights and hotels in Turkey. This agency also stated that the number of tourists has increased, as the cheap flights to Dalaman and Bodrum have increased.
The tourists are attracted towards Turkey because of the beaches, friendly people and also the sunshine.

They also said that this year the booking of flights for Turkey has been increasing and it is also at a higher demand, if compared to other countries. They also expect that this will continue even in 2010, as they have already seen many early bookings for the next summer.

Moreover, they are shocked that the tourists are going even at this time which used to be the quiet time of the year. This is because of the cheap flights being offered, which also lead to cheap holidays.

Egyptian tourism holds ground despite recession

Egypt, the name synonymous with the Nile and Mummies, is still one of the most popular holiday destinations for tourists across the globe. The Necropolis, carved into limestone cliffs on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor, is one of the country’s popular tourist spots which experiences thousands of visitors on a daily basis.

However, Egypt suffered a setback early this year due to the onset of the recession. Egypt then managed to stage a comeback in the third quarter of 2009. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism expects only a meagre decline of around 4 percent this year. Tourists are still eager to visit Egypt despite the current scenario.

Experts suggest that Egypt managed to remain popular, due to the presence of the Nile Valley, which attracts many tourists. Popular Egyptian resorts faced a decline in the number of tourists at the beginning of 2009. However, they responded to the situation with discounted room rates. Egypt also countered the after-effects of the recession by introducing new schemes. For instance, officials offered a deal to charter flight operators in which they were compensated for any vacant seats.

Egypt witnessed an influx of tourists since the Easter break in April.

Malta is a popular destination among the UK tourists

Malta is one of the destinations that are immensely popular among UK tourists. It is a small territory combined with a rich cultural history and favourable climate, which are just some of the reasons that have contributed to the high regard of Malta.

Malta’s official tourism board has also suggested that around 35 percent of the 1.3 million annual international tourists belong to the UK. Britons are however second to Germans in the aspect of importance to Malta’s tourism industry. According to Alex Incorvaja, MTA’s director for the UK and Ireland, Malta is all set to become even more popular among tourists.

Malta’s fame among tourists looking for short city trips is cited as the major reason behind this phenomenon. In addition, several airlines have increased the frequency of their flights to the country to cope with demand.

Alex Incorvaja feels that the nation is popular, in spite of its relatively small 360 sq km area, due to the vast history it offers coupled with plush hotels, restaurants, museums and famous cultural sites. A trip to Malta is also much more affordable compared to other tourist destinations. According to the Post Office, Malta is the third most affordable tourist destination in the Euro zone led by Spain and Portugal.
