Las Vegas airport – major construction project

Even through the troubled world financial traumas, which includes airline bankruptcies and escalating fuel costs including a sharp fall off in family holidays and air travel, there are still many airports throughout the globe that are still planning some huge airport expansion projects.

This list of projects which are either recently completed or still under construction include both the major and more midsize airports accepting most long and short haul flights. The largest airport construction project to be considered for installation is in Las Vegas at their McCarran International Airport. The planned construction has not come at a good time for the economy and it has now hit a problem with regard to finances.

Officials have decided to cut $360 million away from the Las Vegas airport’s $3.7 billion improvement plan at Las Vegas’ McCarran International. They have also postponed their $215 million runway re-build including all new signage and it has now cancelled the $10 million escalator plan to expand it at baggage claim making it easier for holiday makers. The original plan to include and build a third terminal at the airport in Las Vegas is still expected to continue as normal.

A more ongoing expansion plan is under construction at the airport of Orlando International, the improvements include upgrading facilities and services to people traveling from flights outside the USA. Its full $1 billion program had included a major overhaul of all the airports’ main ticket lobbies; however, this now has been postponed due to the current economic climate.

One airport that is continuing ahead with its planned infrastructural improvements is the Port Authority of New York City and New Jersey who have injected a huge $68 million capital plan to reduce flight congestion at both JFK and Newark Liberty.
