Florida and Miami remain top destination choices

Filed under: Florida, General, Las Vegas, Miami, New York — Tim on July 29, 2009 @ 9:40 am

According to a new survey, it seems that the likes of Florida and Miami remain top destination choices for British holidays as the United States continues to top the bill despite uncertainty over the economy.

Over 10 per cent of people questions in the survey selected America as their top holiday destination. The results are perhaps unsurprising as America has remained highly popular for holidays with British people, partly due to the popularity of Disney World Florida and the attractions of New York, as well as the likes of Las Vegas, making it appealing for singles, family holidays and city breaks.

The most confident of those surveyed were business travellers and men in general were also more likely to pick the US as their top destination, with 14 per cent of men compared to just nine per cent of women selecting the US.

The survey from M&SFS questioned 2,000 people about where they would most like to take their holidays at the moment and it seemed the prospect of long haul flights was not putting them off with Australia in second place.

Spain came in third place followed then by the UK itself. For shorter breaks and holidays, France was most popular.

New records for Las Vegas

Filed under: Las Vegas — Adam on July 26, 2009 @ 11:48 am

According to the city’s tourist board, Las Vegas is about to become the city hosting ‘an unprecedented urban metropolis’ as its appeal to tourists is boosted with the opening of its ‘CityCenter’.

The CityCenter property is set to become ‘the largest private development in US history’ and will set a new record. The new development is due to open in December this year and will take up 67 acres of land.

These 67 acres are located between the Bellagio and Monte Carlo casinos and are on the Las Vegas Strip itself.

CityCenter is to consist of five luxurious hotels, ideal for holidays and city breaks, as well as residential properties. The development will add around 6,000 additional rooms on top of the 140,000 room capacity already available in Las Vegas.

Aria is one of the largest components of CityCenter. It will be an amazing 61 stories high, gaming property offering 4,000 rooms on its own. It will also play home to the Elvis Presley tribute Cirque du Soleil show.

CityCenter will also host a Mandarin Oriental 47 storey tower and a non-gaming establishment Vdara.

Las Vegas is particularly popular with Brits for exciting city breaks for short holidays of a lifetime.

The United States remain the top holiday destination

Filed under: Las Vegas, New York, USA — Emma on July 16, 2009 @ 11:03 am

Despite the drop in the value of sterling over the last twelve months, research from the International Currency Exchange (ICE) shows that the US is still one of the top destinations for Brits.

According to Ice, the British pound fell by 17.5 per cent versus the US dollar in the last twelve months, however, orders for the US dollar still increased by 105 per cent in the last quarter.

The most popular currency is still the Euro, however, as the Turkish lira and Croatian kuna were still in the top six. This indicates Brits still have an interest in other European destinations.

Andrew Hamilton, head of marketing for Ice, said:

“Over the last 12 months, the top three currencies ordered online remain unchanged, with the euro accounting for 55% of orders, while US dollar orders jumped from 18% in June 2008 to 30% this year. The pound has recovered against the euro by 12%, but it is still down compared to 12 months ago. This means UK holidaymakers are flocking to the likes of Turkey and Croatia, pushing up sales of these currencies.”

The US is still a top holiday destination for Brits, helped somewhat by New York, one of the top destinations for city breaks and other top holidays in the US such as Las Vegas.

Tourist boards find new ways to increase tourism

Filed under: General, Las Vegas — Adam on July 13, 2009 @ 9:32 am

Tourist boards are using new and unique ways to increase tourism for their destinations and use their marketing budget wisely.

According to a recent Forbes report, creativity is rife when it comes to attracting tourists to city breaks and holidays in destinations such as Las Vegas, Queensland, the Cayman Islands and more.

One rather extravagant campaign went so far as using a film, Cayman Went as a promotion to encourage holidays to the Cayman Islands.

Those responsible for marketing Las Vegas for city breaks re-launched their What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas campaign to further promote their entertainment centres.

Others are focusing upon the benefits of travelling as a way to escape day to day life such as one tourism promotion for Michigan inviting holidaymakers to “come back to what’s real and true”.

One campaign that really hit the headlines and even had a television show broadcast about its creativity is the “best job in the world” offered by the tourism campaign for Queensland in Australia, which included an extravagant salary and a six month contract to manage Hamilton Island with expenses paid for. The campaign even won a prize at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

Tourist agencies all over the world want tourists to visit their destination and are offering some cheap holidays and amazing city breaks for those seeking holidays over the next few months.

BA to continue with new flight to New York

Filed under: Las Vegas, New York — Tim on July 3, 2009 @ 9:18 am

British Airways has confirmed its intention to continue with initial plans to launch the new London City to New York flights later this year despite the global recession affecting the aviation industry.

The route is due to commence with its first business class-only service on the 29th September and will be the first long haul route from London City airport. BA intends to offer flights twice a day on the Airbus 318, which will be complete with 32 convertible seats that can lie fully flat to function as beds.

From London City airport, the Airbus 318 will refuel at the Ireland airport in Shannon. Whilst refuelling, passengers will be able to clear US customs checks so they can pass through New York’s JFK airport faster upon arrival.

Willie Walsh, Chief Executive of British Airways, said:

“In the harshest trading environment airlines have experienced, we believe it is more important than ever to embrace the future and innovate. That is what this historic new route is all about. There is real enthusiasm from our customers for this project. This is BA at its best - stylish, British and ahead of the game.”

Certainly the enthusiasm for city breaks and holiday deals to both New York and Las Vegas has returned following the movement of the pound versus the dollar recently;
BA is also intending to fly new services from Heathrow to Las Vegas later this year, which will be welcome news to those seeking city breaks in Las Vegas.
