Filed under: Disney World Florida, Florida — Emma on July 31, 2009 @ 9:51 am

When people talk about holidays in Orlando, essentially they reference Disney World Florida in the same breath. Orlando is all about fun on the grandest scale imaginable. It is the home to Walt Disney World Florida, the home of Mickey Mouse, as well as the movie magic from Universal Studios Orlando and the underwater adventures at Sea World.

For family holidays, Disney World Florida and Orlando are difficult to beat. Yet, with or without children, Orlando does have more to offer and there are many more reasons to take holidays to Florida than theme park rides.

Naturally, there is plentiful sunshine, shopping in outlet malls for some great bargains – even during the recession and the weaker pound – and the food is glorious, whether you want the burgers and chips or the more sophisticated seafood; Florida boasts a wide range of gourmet food for all.

There is also a cultural side to Orlando, including the ballet, the opera and many museums. The nightlife is great with downtown clubs and music for all tastes.

From Florida, there are other states to visit. A couple of days in Miami, a trip to the Gulf of Mexico coast, Cape Canaveral and more are all within a few hours drive.

There is no way anybody could be bored on holidays to Orlando and the best part for most British adults would seem you can be a child all over again.

Florida and Miami remain top destination choices

Filed under: Florida, General, Las Vegas, Miami, New York — Tim on July 29, 2009 @ 9:40 am

According to a new survey, it seems that the likes of Florida and Miami remain top destination choices for British holidays as the United States continues to top the bill despite uncertainty over the economy.

Over 10 per cent of people questions in the survey selected America as their top holiday destination. The results are perhaps unsurprising as America has remained highly popular for holidays with British people, partly due to the popularity of Disney World Florida and the attractions of New York, as well as the likes of Las Vegas, making it appealing for singles, family holidays and city breaks.

The most confident of those surveyed were business travellers and men in general were also more likely to pick the US as their top destination, with 14 per cent of men compared to just nine per cent of women selecting the US.

The survey from M&SFS questioned 2,000 people about where they would most like to take their holidays at the moment and it seemed the prospect of long haul flights was not putting them off with Australia in second place.

Spain came in third place followed then by the UK itself. For shorter breaks and holidays, France was most popular.

Holiday industry showing strong signs of growth

Filed under: Australia, Barbados, Egypt, Florida — Adam on June 30, 2009 @ 11:34 am

According to the WTM Vision Conference, figures are showing that the holiday and travel industry is showing some strong signs of growth meaning 2010 should be a good year for the industry.

The conference focused mainly upon the effects of the global recession and despite not achieving the four per cent growth predicted for 2009 last year, it seems that growth looks likely to continue in 2010.

Holiday deals are certainly aplenty for holidaymakers this summer as hotel prices are much cheaper and price reductions have been passed on, meaning cheap holidays for many.

Two areas in particular were praised for their positive approach and continued self promotion; the tourist boards for Barbados and Australia. The Carnival UK commercial officer, Peter Shanks, praised them for their efforts during the past year saying: “If you promote yourself when times are tough you will get the business.”

UK holidaymakers have already shown they are taking advantage of cheap holidays in Florida now that the pound has begun to strengthen again versus the dollar and it is expected that holidays within Europe will see the same resurgence as the pound strengthens against the euro, as holidays to Egypt have already done.
