The Ibiza Film Festival 2009

Holiday makers travelling to Ibiza this year will be interested to know the city is welcoming its third hosting of the Ibiza International Film Festival. The festival runs from 27th May to 3rd June 2009 and pays tribute to Terry Gilliam, the US film maker, showing a retrospective of movies from his fifty year reign as one of the most popular film makers of his generation.

Based in Santa Eulalia del Rio, the Ibiza Conference Centre is the main venue in the festival and is a 436 seat auditorium which plays host to the major viewings and inauguration as well as the festivals closing ceremony.

Terry Gilliam’s films are being shown in honour of the Academy Fellowship which he was awarded by BAFTA this year in lieu of his outstanding contribution to cinema as an art form.

The filmmaker finalised his last film, which was the last acting performance of the actor Heath Ledger, with appearances from Heath’s friends who helped to step in during the making of the film when the young actor died. The film sees performances from Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell who all stepped in to help.

John Hurt and director Michael Radford will also join Gilliam at the Ibiza festival this year. Tickets can be bought online for this exciting festival.

During the festival there is a three day event from Saturday 29th May, when there will be hosts of master classes, Q & As, show reel viewings and the first opportunity to use some of the industries newest audiovisual products including new digital supports to hit the mobile phone market before the end of the year.

Major film companies who will be present at the event include; Filmax, Paramount, Fox, Wide Pictures, SECAE and IFM.

If you are on holiday in Ibiza on 28th May there is an additional celebration taking place; the 50th anniversary celebration of the making of the film maker Federico Fellini and his emblematic ‘La Dolce Vita’ made on the island of Ibiza.
