The Costa del Sol in Spain is a great tourist destination

The Costa del Sol is one of Spain’s main tourist destinations. It stretches along 150km of the Malaga province. The climate makes it an ideal tourist destination.

The Costa del Sol’s coastline falls on the east side of Malaga city, which is the capital of Malaga province. This side of the coast consists of cliffs up to 200 meters high, Sierra Almijara the national park and a coastal plain called Mara. The place is surrounded by traditional agriculture.

Nerja is the urban centre of the town. This is where the tourists of Costa del Sol find themselves comfortable accommodation. The main tourist attraction of this town is the Nerja Caves. Besides being open to public, an annual music and dance festival is hosted at the caves. Winding footpaths from the foot of the town leads you to some beautiful beaches.

The rest of the coastline stretches from Malaga city to the border of Cadiz province. This 100km coastline is well developed in terms of property and infrastructure. Most of Spain’s international tourists visit this side of the coastline.

Besides the coast, you can visit the cities of Ronda, Seville, Cordoba and Granada. These cities are accessible by day tours from the Costa del Sol. Malaga International Airport is only 8km from the west side of the coast. An inland connection to the coast is the road from San Pedro de Alcantara to the city of Ronda.

Reasons for cheap holidays

Since the onset of the current economic climate, it has been no secret that airlines have been struggling and so cheap holidays have been promoted as much as possible in an effort to win holidaymakers business.

However, thanks to a shock announcement from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) it seems that the figures could be worse than at first thought.

There are fewer business trips being taken and although holidaymakers in Britain are still taking holidays, they are more likely to be last minute holidays or cheap holidays booked well in advance. Many holidays are being taken closer to home in destinations such as Paris, the Costa Brava or the Costa del Sol where direct holidays can be taken rather than long haul places such as Thailand.

To help resolve the issues, the IATA has requested that the government remove the limitations currently imposed on some of the flight routes to allow collaboration between different airlines.

So, the good news from this for British holidaymakers is that flights and accommodation packages may well be cheaper than otherwise possible, so despite the credit crunch cheap holidays might well be worth a second look now.
