Holiday makers heading for their summer break in Barcelona this year are going to get the chance of enjoying a large variety of live musical entertainment when the Spanish city’s venue Poble Espanyol is host to the huge summer concert season.
Roger Hodgson, Former member of Supertramp is to kick start the proceedings with a number of shows that begin on 1st July, which see him singing live in Barcelona for the first time in his career.
George Benson, the international jazz artist is providing the live music entertainment on 5th July and on 10th July the prog rock group Amaral take the stage.
The other Poble Espanyol highlights are scheduled for late July when the 1980s singing icon Cyndi Lauper takes the stage on 21st July in Barcelona.
The former Yardbirds guitarist Jeff Beck is then bringing the summer 2009 concert season to an end on 22nd July when he appears in concert performing new tracks of his latest album.
Barcelona’s Poble Espanyol is a popular attraction to holiday makers throughout the year; its main function is as the city’s open-air architectural museum, which represents all the Spanish culture and style from across the country.
The cosmopolitan city of Barcelona is about to benefit from a large and unusual boost to its international profile as a key tourist city break destination in May, when there is a new high profile publication of a Batman comic book being published set in the city.
Holiday makers visiting Barcelona could see the release of the official one off volume of the new Batman comic book as it launches at the International Comic Fair which is being held at Fira de Barcelona on 29th May 2009.
The front cover of the new comic gives Barcelona as the backdrop to the Batman adventures enclosed as the super hero stands in the foreground some of Barcelona’s most notorious tourist attractions can clearly be seen behind him such as the Sagrada Familia cathedral.
The illustrator for the new comic cover is the famous Jim Lee, who has worked on X-Men and previous Batman comics.
The Batman comic is 48 pages and this special edition also includes a foreword from the mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu. The comic is simultaneously to be officially published throughout the rest of Spain along with Italy and the United States.
The first time Batman appeared in his own comic was during the spring of 1940 which means that the famed comic book series is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.
