Lahore, Pakistan’s Magnificent Mughal City

Lahore is one of Pakistan’s oldest cities. It’s rich in Mughal (Mogul) architecture, making it a perfect destination for a heritage-filled, exotic holiday. Here are some of top attractions of the Lahore city.

Badshahi Mosque, close to Minar-e-Pakistan, was built in the days of Aurangzeb. It closely resembles Jama Masjid in Delhi. The mosque is one of the best examples of Mughal architecture in Pakistan. It is the largest mosque on the Indian subcontinent.

Walled City or the Old City is part of Lahore that had a wall with thirteen gates surrounding it. Much of the wall stands even today.

Data Durbar is where Hazrat Ali Al-Hajweri is buried. He was a Sufi saint known all over South Asia.

Hiran Minar was built in the memory Jahangir’s pet antelope, Mansraj. Situated on the outskirts of Lahore, it is part of a hunting lodge.

Shalimar Gardens were commissioned during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan. The splendid three-terraced gardens have large ornamental ponds and waterfalls. They are one of the very few well-preserved Mughal gardens. Shalimar Gardens are a World Heritage Site.

Minar-e-Pakistan is the National Monument of Pakistan. It built to commemorate the Lahore Resolution in 1940. The resolution demanded a separate nation for the Muslims of India.

Lahore is great family holiday destination for those interested in Mughal architecture.
