Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. There are many small islands around Sicily, which are considered to be a part of Sicily. Due to the wonderful climate, cuisine, scenery and beautiful architecture legacy of Sicily, it is one of the most popular tourist places. It attracts many visitors from mainland Italy and abroad.

In the summer months Sicily is filled with visitors because it looks beautiful at this time of year. The popular destinations amongst the visitors are Mount Etna, the beaches, the archeological sites and the two cities of Catania and Palermo.

The beautiful town of Taormina and the resort of Giradini Naxos are popular. Also, other places such as the Aeolian Islands, Erice, Agrigento, Syracuse and Cefalu are also the major attractions of Sicily. There are old and beautiful temples of the ancient Greek period.

The different coasts are great attractions of Sicily:

Ionian Coast – This is to the east of Sicily and it attracts most of the tourists to the island. Taormina Island is one of the most popular places in this region of Sicily and it is known for its Graeco Roman theatre. Mount Etna is the main attraction in Sicily and it comes under this region.

Tyrrhenian Coast – This region is famous for its sandy beaches, small resorts and villages. Cefalu is the important destination in the coast as it has a Romanesque cathedral. Sicily is also popular for its nature reserves and Parco Naturale Regionale delle Madonie is one of the most well known reserves.

Southern Coast – Magna Graecia, Selinunte and Agrigento are the main cities in this region. They are known for the temples from 5th century BC. Thus, all this makes Sicily a beautiful place to visit.

Hotels and new resorts across Italy

Anybody who is taking a holiday to Italy this year should be interested to know that the state tourist board have just announced the full details of all the new resorts, hotels and other developments that are opening this year across the country.

Those who are taking their summer holidays on one of the islands of Italy are going to be given the opportunity see new buildings and establishments that will include the resort known as Belli Spa in the beautiful region of Sicily, along with the Villa Marina hotel and spa in Capri that is open to taking Easter bookings now.

Large parts of the Forte Village resort have been restyled on the busy holiday island of Sardinia and only recently completed, whilst the hotels Il Villaggio and Le Palme have gone through major renovations.

During July 2009, there will be accommodation options available within Tuscany’s Chianti area, which has been extended with the new opening of the Castel Monastero, a huge country house resort which boasts facilities including an award winning restaurant branded as ‘Gordon Ramsay.’
