1923 saw the founding of the Triennal di Milano built in Milan; it was intended for stimulating relations between the production sectors and the industry in applied arts, including the decorative arts and the modern industries sector. The Triennale di Milano became the ‘mirror of artistic and architectural culture’ within Italy and become one of the prime and largest areas internationally to view emerging trends in the arts.

The headquarters of the Palazzo dell’Arte has been in Parco Sempione since the year 1933 and has become an exhibition of 8,000 square meters dedicating itself to the arts and modern technology, including audiovisual communications and fashion.

The ground floor of the building known as ‘Galleria del Triennale’ is dedicated for use by temporary exhibitions and boasts 1,500 square meters of space designed by Gae Aulenti; it also holds a permanent collection of Italian architectural, graphic and urban design.

The exhibition is very popular with holiday makers who take city breaks to Milan and are interested in the arts and modern technology.

Another leading attraction in Milan is the La Scala Theater, which is popular with cultured holiday makers wishing to visit Milan to take in one of their famous operas. The theatre house was opened in 1778 and is one of the most important and oldest cultural institutions in Milan. During the theatre season it shows famous ballets, concerts and operas from local and international tours.
