Orlando Airport, Florida to include Sarasota flights

Filed under: Florida — Tim @ 3:37 pm

Allegiant Air against all economic odds are still adding a new Florida destination to the service that it currently offers from Greenville Spartanburg (GSP) International Airport, the changes will take place next year said an airline spokeswoman.

GSP is one out of the two airports at Tenn and Knoxsville which services the South West Coast of Florida and are key local airports to Orlando. Allegiant is the new flight service that will be available to Florida’s South West Coast. The same flights are due to land at Charlotte County Airport between Sarasota and Fort Myers.

A spokeswoman for the new flights operation said:

“The Upstate has been a very good market for us. This is a new destination for us and we wanted to add it to regions we thought would support it. The Upstate economy continues to be pretty strong, relative to the rest of the nation and the benefit to our service is that other low-cost methods of travel to Florida are not available locally so we will be the only ones. We feel pretty confident.”

CEO, Maurice J. Gallagher Junior said:

“GSP was selected as one of our first airports to receive this new service based on our experience and success with the market.”

Allegiant Air flights go to Orlando and surrounding areas such as Tampa Bay and Fort Lauderdale which means that visiting holidaymakers to Orlando can now get cheaper inner flights in the States making the fly drive slightly less appealing depending upon your plans.

Fares are now available online and you can book immediately there are also special introductory fares from as little as $59 both ways which are available. Introductory fares are very limited and only available on some flights. All flights must be purchased by 4th December 2008 for any travel taken up to April 30th 2009.

Two flights a week are now planned on Thursday and Sunday, leaving GSP at the local time of 2:05 p.m. Flights from Charlotte County Airport are scheduled to arrive at GSP at the local time of 6:05 p.m. during the same days.

Once the normal fare tariffs resume fares will probably even out at $79 each way.

A spokeswoman at Allegiant Air said that their passengers typically are leisure travellers who are holidaying, some are taking family holidays from outside the country and some from within the country, there are a few business travellers and there are those people who combine both business and social holiday.

“The traffic on Allegiant Air has been relatively steady and strong,” said Mrs. Rosylin Weston, at the GSP. “Some of our airlines have experienced peaks and valleys in 2008.

Orlando’s Citrus Parade

Filed under: Florida — Adam @ 3:56 pm

Those planning luxury holidays for the Christmas holidays will be able to see the Citrus Parade in this festive season if they visit Orlando.

The Florida city of Orlando will be running the Citrus Parade on the 30th December this year and is a regular holiday event in the city, which often attracts around 80,000 spectators.

In addition to marking the Christmas season, the Citrus Parade also celebrates two annual college football games that are held locally at the end of the year.

The Citrus Parade procession is impressive with theme park characters from the theme parks, marching bands and the parade gets its name from the amazing floats decorated with all kinds of citrus fruits.

If visitors want a good view of the parade then they should go to locations such as Orange Avenue, South Street, Lake Eola or North Rosalind Avenue, which are all on the parade’s route.  The event starts at 11am so people should arrive early.

The next day is New Year’s Eve and those still in the area should head to Walt Disney World Resort where they will be welcoming in the New Year with another parade of great characters and a fantastic fireworks display at different times to suit different age groups.

Florida Keys Conservation 100 Year Anniversary

Filed under: Florida — Adam @ 2:31 pm

This month sees the 100 year anniversary of conservation on the Florida Keys island and those holidaymakers heading to the Florida Keys this month will be able to join in the celebrations.

On the 15th November, locals will be marking this 100 year anniversary for when the islands were first protected. The first wildlife sanctuary was set up in 1908 to help protect the migratory bird population.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, there will be a celebratory event hosted at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Centre.

The location is also the site of North America’s last remaining living coral barrier reef, a part of which is now part of the John Pennkamp Coral Reef State Park for its own protection.

Thousands of visitors go to the park each year to watch the abundant wildlife, including rare birds and tropical fish.

The Lower Keys has also been the focus of conservation for over fifty years as the National Key Deer Refuge was founded in 1957. In this refuge, wildlife enthusiasts are able to catch a glimpse of the Key deer, an endangered species that is only found on the Florida Keys and are able to swim between the islands.
