Egypt carries a long and interesting history spanning many centuries. It is known as the land of mystery, with the Pyramids of Egypt as the main attractions to visit. The pharaohs are brought to life by such magnificently huge and ancient pyramids. Whether it is the lazy beaches, the adventurous deserts or the coral waters, Egypt is a place to visit and spend your holidays. There are lot of exciting holiday deals you can get while going to such a historic place.

Sharm el Sheikh, a resort which originated twenty-five years ago, is the queen of Red Sea Riviera. Recent attractions include resorts like Taba Heights in the Sinai Peninsula, Hurghada, El Gouna, Safaga and Makadi Bay in the Western Red Sea, El Alamein and Porto Marina in the Mediterranean.

Khan el Khalili bazaar district in Cairo, the rooftop bars and the lively cafes in the Red Sea resorts are some of the spots to enjoy the later hours of the night. Sip on some mint tea and Kahwa coffee with local food specialities like kebabs and humus.

To feel some adrenaline, go for wadi-bashing in four by four vehicles or camel rides along the desert. Witness beautiful corals and tropical fish in the Red Sea. Wind surfing has also become a favourite sport on the Red Sea.

You can shop shoes and cotton clothes in the markets of Alexandria. Go for a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan and experience the heart of the country. Every time you hear the word Egypt, it conjures up images of pyramids, sand and camels. The next time you are stuck about the choice of location for your holidays, there is one place that is worth a visit and that is Sharm El Sheikh.

Sharm El Sheikh has a lot on offer so you can spend your holidays being productive. This ranges from outdoor activities to water sports, fishing and playing golf on one of their numerous courses. All of which can be enjoyed whilst admiring the fascinating scenery and the temperate climate. Sharm’s golden beaches are also immensely popular with sun-worshippers. The Red Sea offers more than enough opportunity for activities such as scuba-diving and snorkeling to name but a few.

However you need not spend a significant part of your holidays playing sports. Na’ama Bay is a very appealing area to meet the locals and has an adequate number of shops, bars and restaurants available to keep you entertained. The exhilarating nightlife too is worth a mention for those who like to enjoy and sample a bit of real Egyptian culture.

Visiting the Sharm Old Market will give pleasure to those tourists who have a fine eye for a good deal. The Sharm Old Market provides an occasion for those who wish to use their haggling skills to good effect, irrespective of whether you are looking to buy time-honoured clothing or hand crafted merchandise and trinkets in addition to the variety of herbs and spices on display.

In the Red Sea resort of El Gouna in Egypt, it has recently been announced that there is to be a new luxury resort specialising in sports called Ancient Sands.

This new sports resort is being built by construction company ODH (Orascom Development Holding) and the private complex will be within easy reach of both the marina and the Red Sea, an area that holiday makers worldwide love for its world class diving.

The complex is to be equipped with all sorts of facilities such as swimming pools and restaurants, apartments and a spa treatment centre as well as a championship golf course.

The first phase is due to open to welcome guests starting from December 2011.

Mayar Abdel Aziz, vice-president of destination marketing for ODH, said:

“The Ancient Sands Resort is a welcome addition to El Gouna. It will be built to uncompromising standards to provide a unique experience for all. The range of facilities it will provide will add to the large number of exciting services El Gouna already offers its guests.”

The resort of El Gouna is one of the most popular areas in the Red Sea area of Egypt, along with the world famous Sharm El Sheikh. Both resorts are renowned for sporting holidays, in particular watersports, such as waterskiing, windsurfing and of course diving, as well as others.

Turkey’s currency increases in popularity

Filed under: Egypt, Thailand, Turkey — Adam on July 22, 2009 @ 8:57 am

For the second quarter of 2009 the Turkish currency, the lira, was the third most popular currency with Brits going on holiday, according to a recent report. The euro and the US dollar took the first and second place. The US dollar and the euro are traditionally top favourites for the British people.

The research came from M&S Money and showed sales of Turkey’s currency had increased by 27 per cent when compared to the same period in 2008. No doubt it is the cheap holidays and great holiday deals on offer that has contributed to this rise.

The Egyptian pound also increased in popularity during the same period, showing an increase of 20 per cent and bringing it into sixth place. The Czech koruna and the Canadian dollar also took positions in the top ten.

James Yerkess, M&S Travel Money manager said:

“The increased strength of the euro against the pound means that holidaymakers have been looking at destinations outside the eurozone in the past year. Egypt and Turkey have become increasingly popular among Brits.”

M&S Money also showed that for long haul holidays, Thailand and Fiji were both increasingly popular as both currencies from these countries rose in the second quarter of this year.

Brits will still take 56 million trips this summer

Filed under: Egypt, General, Turkey — Emma on July 20, 2009 @ 9:47 am

According to recent research, around 56 million holidays will still be taken this summer by British holidaymakers despite the recession.

The research comes from Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance as their survey showed the economic downturn is actually encouraging people to have holidays or city breaks in order to escape their troubles.

Around 670,000 people intend to travel more than usual this year to avoid depression from the credit crunch.

The survey also showed that Brits spend around £780 per person on each holiday on average, which totals around £43 billion on holidays this summer alone.

Over a third of the survey respondents said they would travel within the eurozone although the pound is still weak against the euro and more than 60 per cent said they would have at least one short break in the UK this year.

Sam Marrs, manager of Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance, said:

“Despite tough economic conditions, it would appear that rather than sacrificing our holidays, we Britons may even be taking more breaks in a bid to put all the credit crunch doom and gloom behind us.”

In a recent statement from Which? Holiday magazine, travellers were advised to look for affordable breaks outside the eurozone including places such as Turkey or Egypt.

Holidaymakers reminded of vaccination requirements

Filed under: Egypt, General, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey — Adam on July 10, 2009 @ 5:41 pm

Despite the current economic climate, it seems when it comes to holidays, exotic destinations are still thriving with visitors such as Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia and Thailand.

Trips to such destinations still make cheap holidays and offer a sense of adventure that can only be attained by travelling so far from home. Many holidaymakers however remain unaware of the need to have the right vaccinations and ideally some time before travel, so as last minute holidays hold such attractive prices it is advised that people should protect themselves earlier rather than later.

According to an article in the Daily Mirror by Dr Miriam Stoppard, an alarming one quarter of visitors to Africa, the Middle East and Asia have not had any vaccinations. Her advice was to plan trips outside of Europe a little earlier to ensure vaccinations can be given.

Travellers can check with their pharmacist or GP to find out which destinations need which vaccinations, and even boosters.

If exotic holidays appeal to you and you want to take advantage of the cheap holidays available, then it is important to get all the advice for such places before looking round and then the world can be your oyster.
