There are a host of unique festivals that are held annually in Lanzarote and many of the events are religious in origin, however everyone can get involved and holiday makers are always welcome to enjoy the fun. Some of the up and coming festivals due to be held in Lanzarote are:

Canarian Day - Dia de Canarias

On the 30th May the Canary Island’s celebrate their first day of autonomy from Spain which happened in 1983. This is an annual holiday across the seven Canary Islands in the archipelago.

Dia de Canarias is the day the Canary Islands celebrate their Canarian culture with a huge number of events. As the Canarian white, blue and yellow flag flies in the wind events range from hunting, fishing, wrestling, free food and wine tasting. It is also a day of dancing and general celebration. Most hotels hold special folklore parties with themed traditional Canarian food.

Fiesta de San Gines

From the 15th – 25th August Lanzarote celebrates its patron saint San Gines.

El Charco is the central area that sees most of the celebrations and activities which include traditional island sports and local food and drink celebrations including the election of a new Miss Lanzarote.

There is an annual spectacular firework display on the final night of the event which takes place on the main beach next to the hotel Arrecife Gran. This event is very popular and always attracts a large number of holiday makers and locals.
