Tenerife - Brits Favourite

Filed under: Canary Islands — Tim @ 1:58 pm

New research has shown that Tenerife is the favourite destination that many Brits are choosing this summer.  Many Brits are searching for cheap holidays this year with the credit crunch and rising cost of living and Tenerife has long been known as a great destination for bargain holidays and flights too.

Tenerife was top of the list, followed by Orlando in Florida, helping by the weak dollar at the moment - Orlando was sixty per cent more popular this year compared to 2007.

Other popular places included Malage and Alicante, whilst luxury holidays in destinations like Dubai and Bangkok still made an appearance.

Other places in the top ten were Paphos at seventh and the Algarve and Turkey.

Other cheap holiday destinations included those looking to save the environment by reducing their carbon footprint, using a caravan holiday to save them money as well.

According to the Coventry Telegraph, both campaing and caravanning are proving more popular now, especially with the 45 per cent of Brits searching for an environmentally friendly holiday this year.

Cheap Holiday In Gran Canaria

Filed under: Canary Islands — Adam @ 3:35 pm

If you’re looking for a cheap holiday, then why not check out cheap package deals to Gran Canaria.

Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands, just off the coast of Spain, close to Tenerife and Fuerteventura. If you hire a car, it’s possible to explore the entire island as it’s only 1560 square kilometres, although most tourists tend to stay on the south of the island as it’s slightly warmer.

Whether you choose to stay in the capital of Las Palmas or one of the seaside tourist towns such as Puerto Rico or Maspalomas, there’s always plenty to do with local shops, pretty beaches to explore, dolphin spotting or watersports. Maspalomas in particular is known for its great beach, lighthouse and lagoon.

Gran Canaria is an old volcanic island so you can take a bus tour to one of the volcanoes as well.

There’s something for everyone in Gran Canaria. The shopping, markets, history, simple cafes and restaurants suit those looking for a quieter break whereas for those who have the energy, many beaches boast a range of watersports and a lively nightlife.
