European holiday makers and travellers will soon be able to reap the benefits from the extra connections United States Airways are servicing to Brazil, should the application for the new flight service come to fruition.

United States Airways just announced that an application has gone into the American Department of Transportation asking for a twelve month daily service to fly from its hub in North Carolina flying to Rio de Janeiro.

The new flight route will be serviced by a Boeing 767 aircraft which has capacity to carry 186 passengers at one time, within the main cabin area.

CEO and Chairman of US Airlines, Doug Parker, thanked the Brazilian government for removing the original restrictions that were made on the number of United States carriers who are authorised to fly into the country.

He added:

“As one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, Charlotte is primed for international expansion. With non-stop service to 22 destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America, expanding our reach to South America from Charlotte is the next logical step.”

United States Airways’ largest flight hub is Charlotte Douglas airport is where it operates 571 flights every day.

Filed under: Brazil, Italy — Tim on October 22, 2008 @ 4:44 pm

From June next year, Pele, the king of football, otherwise known as ‘O Rey’, will be honoured with the first cruise dedicated in his name.  Costa Cruises will reportedly be using its flagship cruise liner, the Costa Serena, for this event.

The Costa Serena will be departing on the 28th June from Venice and touring the Mediterranean, including destinations such as Dubrovnik and Rhodes, before its return to Italy.  The week-long cruise will have Pele and several other top European footballers as its passengers on this voyage.

Its food, music, activities and parties will be on a Brazilian theme to honour the footballer, who spoke at the cruise’s press conference in Madrid.  Pele said the cruise would host travellers such as presidents of football clubs and federations, who will be attending several meetings and conferences.

Pele added:

“The Costa Serena cruise, during which everything will be focused on Brazil, will spread joy throughout the entire eastern Mediterranean, with stops in Italy, Croatia and Greece.”

Costa Cruises is a leading cruise company based in Italy and has twelve ships that cruise to different holiday destinations in northern Europe, the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean amongst other regions.  For luxury holidays, many British holidaymakers love to take a cruise.

Rio De Janeiro, where the world comes to celebrate!

Rio De Janeiro is all about beautiful beaches, carnival, music and food!
Rio’s beaches are like the city and its people - beautiful, vivacious and vibrant!
A perfect destination for a perfect family holiday.

Rio’s popular beaches

Copacabana is one of the ten most famous beaches on earth. The 4 km long beach is very clean and has soft sand. Visitors keep themselves busy with water sports and volleyball in the day and then can party all night!

Ipanema is quieter than Copacabana and known as the family beach. It is more fashionable with girls showing off their newest skimpy beachwear.

Other attractions

Rio’s five–day Carnival is as exciting as the Mardis Gras of New Orlenas or the carnivals of Trinidad and Tobago! It is glitzy, its glittery and it is decadent.

Cuisine & Culture

Rio offers international cuisine to its visitors.

Eating out is affordable and most restaurants offer Feijoada, Brazil’s national dish. It is made of rice, black beans and pork. Caipirinha is the intoxicating lime and sugar drink and chhooppe is the local beer.

Brazilian music is bossa nova which is jazz-based and choro which is instrumental (guitar, flute, mandolin, saxophone and clarinet). Last but not the least, samba, which is a combination of African rhythm and Portuguese song.

Rio’s hold on you will stay long after you leave Brazil and will beckon you to visit again and again.
