Holidays to Tenerife

Tenerife - the all-in-one holiday

When they were handing out sandy beaches, perfect weather and scenic outlooks, someone tripped and gave Tenerife in Spain an extra dollop. These wondrous islands with their palm trees, glorious food and friendly people are why more than 5 million people choose holidays to the Canary Islands each year – and Holiday Supermarket can ensure your cheap holidays to Tenerife live up to every expectation.

The weather in Tenerife is the major draw card. Because the islands are on the same latitude as the Sahara desert the weather is a balmy 22C during winter and around 28C in summer – helped by the Atlantic trade winds and cooled by the coastal humidity. Rain is relatively rare.

Tenerife is the Canary’s most popular island and it also hosts one of the world’s largest carnivals in the form of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island is also home to major activity parks like Siam Park Tenerife – a water park claimed to be the biggest in Europe. The water park in Tenerife is near the tourist centre of Los Cristianos, Tenerife and the town is also home to a monkey park. The other major tourist centre in south Tenerife is Santiago, Tenerife, an old fishing village with a delightful beach.

All-inclusive holidays to Tenerife are easy to arrange and ideal for the group who just wants to enjoy a holiday with nothing else to worry about. You can choose to laze by the beach or pool with a cocktail and good book or you can get out there and get active with the dozens of things to do – hiking, diving, swimming and snorkelling are all within easy reach. There’s so much to see and do on holidays to the Canary Islands that you will become a regular here for years.

Hints and tips for your Tenerfie holiday

Eating

Eating out in Tenerife - cheap, expensive and everything in between

Canary Island cuisine is largely seafood based and many Islanders still claim professional fishing as their primary activity so the fish is always fresh. The other interesting thing to note is that because so many expeditions to foreign climes passed through here in the Canary’s early history the food styles have a number of interesting twists. Meat is popular as is rabbit – in many forms.

The budget options – for one of the best budget meals in a truly wondrous location head to Sabor Canario in the historic town of La Orotava. The courtyard setting is delightful and the Canarian cuisine choices include gofio (a kind of roasted cereal – very traditional), rabbit, beef stew and more.

Mid price options – you’re on holiday in a seaside resort island so what better location than the seaside for a seafood extravaganza at La Torre del Mirador. It’s opposite the Playa de Duque near Hotel Bahia Del Duque and serves very typical Canarian cuisine such as shoulder of lamb and beef skewers as well as fresh seafood. Well priced for the setting and the service.

Splurge – El Patio Restaurant has a deservedly excellent reputation for fine cuisine in an outstanding location. The recommendation is try the tasting menu and match it one of the more than 100 wines on the wine list. It’s in the Hotel Jardin Tropical and the setting, the service and the fresh food is all top notch. Perfect for a special occasion dinner. Be warned – this is gulp-at-the-price territory!

Things not to miss

Tenerife - delightful beaches, awesome activities

If you want a simple beach or poolside holiday then Tenerife can certainly cater for you there! But it’s also an island with plenty of other activities for the action-oriented or scenically minded visitor.

Driving and hiking  - the island of Tenerife boasts several scenic sights. The Masca Valley is not far from Santa Cruz but you’ll need to hire a car to get there. The drive up is an incredible mix between sheer terror on the narrow, winding road and joy at the scenery. Once you get there you can walk down the gorge from the village to the beach below.

Mount Teide  - a drive full of endless views and mountain scenery, the journey to Mount Teide is an easy cruise on a sealed road. On some days you’ll actually climb up up through clouds. Take the cable car ride at the end to the upper station.

Loro Park – otherwise known as parrot park, is a major tourist attraction in the town of Puerto de la Cruz. This glorious place is home to some 4,000 parrots and the park covers some 135,000 square metres. Much more than parrots, the park is also now home to an aquarium and loads of other animals. This is an ideal place to bring young kids.
