Eating

Eating out in Limassol - cheap, expensive and everything in between

Limassol provides a very international dining experience and even though the emphasis is on Cypriot dishes and fresh seafood, the prices are very good - even in the more fine dining establishments.

The budget options - for good cheap eats in Limassol your best bet is George's Restaurant on Amathous Avenue. Quality food, a generous host and excellent reviews. For some great Spanish Tapas try Boho Chic Tapas Bar on Andrea Drousioti - it's cheap and cheerful with an excellent atmosphere, delicious homemade sangria and fast service.

Mid price options - good moderately priced food abounds in Limassol. Try Lisa's Bistro on Amathoundos Avenue - they specialise in 'home style' food and the service is discreet, friendly and fast. A good restaurant in Pissouri Bay is Limanaki Restaurant.

Splurge - when in Cyprus go... French. La Maison Fleurie on Christaki Kranou Street is wonderful. A superb menu, fresh seafood (try the oysters) and a wine list to die for. Leave the kids at home and enjoy a superb romantic night out for two.

Things not to miss

Limassol - historic attractions, beautiful beaches

You've got it all in Limassol - heavenly beaches with acres of sand and warm waters lapping at your toes, fabulous restaurants that compete with each other to serve the freshest food, great scenic options and friendly people in a big, little town.

Limassol Castle - one of nine that grace the area, Limassol Castle was built around 1000 AD and in later years played host to the marriage of King Richard the Lionheart, not long before he sacked the town and tossed out the Byzantine rulers. It served as a prison up until 1940 and is now a museum.

The Archaeological Museum - if the weather turns in for the day this is the spot to be. There's a wonderful collection of artefacts dating from ancient times through to the Roman period.

The festivals of Limassol - if you're lucky enough to strike the Limassol Carnival just before Easter you'll have a great time as the entire town hosts street parties, huge masquerade parades and events in every municipality. The Wine Festival of Cyprus is in early September and the local wineries offer free tastings plus there are nightly events.
